"...In Iran, they keep watch on The Eagle. No sooner had I used
the word "Farsi" in my "Dark Pergola" chapter on
Sunday than I received a clarification from Pejman Akbarzadeh, member
of Artists without Frontiers, Tehran chapter. "I would like to
point out that Farsi, originally Parsi, is the native name of our language,"
he explained, "and Persian is its English equivalent. The native
name of the German language is Deutsch but we never use 'Deutsch' in
place of German in English. You are aware that all international broadcasting
centers, like the BBC and VOA, have a 'Persian Service,' not a 'Farsi'
service."
